Senior Software Engineer, AI

We're looking for a staff software engineer to work on how data is queried and who is allowed to see it. Every read in Asana passes through this layer: it resolves what a user is asking for and enforces, on every object, whether that user is permitted to see it. You will help us keep those guarantees correct and fast as our largest customers grow their domains, their permission structures get more intricate, and AI agents become a significant new class of caller.
The Query and Access Control team owns the query execution path over the Work Graph and the permissioning model that governs it. As a staff engineer on the team, you will take on our hardest technical problems and drive the work that spans several teams, bringing depth to the design decisions that shape this layer for years. We work closely with other teams in the core infrastructure area to build and retain customer trust in Asana as the platform for their critical workflows.
This role is based in our Reykjavik office with an office-centric hybrid schedule. The standard in-office days are Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday. Most Asanas have the option to work from home on Wednesdays. Working from home on Fridays depends on the type of work you do and the teams with which you partner. If you're interviewing for this role, your recruiter will share more about the in-office requirements.
<h2>What you'll achieve</h2>
<ul>
<li>Design and implement a query layer over the Work Graph that stays correct and performant as customer domains and permission structures grow</li>
<li>Evolve our access control model so that permission checks remain sound, auditable, and fast on every read path</li>
<li>Define how new classes of caller, including AI agents acting on a user's behalf, are authorized, without weakening the guarantees customers depend on</li>
<li>Drive large, multi-quarter projects that cut across team boundaries, from design and implementation through deployment and iteration</li>
<li>Build alignment on the design with engineers and leaders in other teams before the code is written, and keep that alignment as the work lands</li>
<li>Share what you know through design review, code review, and mentorship</li>
<li>Partner with infrastructure teams across Asana to define how user data in the Work Graph is accessed</li>
<li>Support framework and product engineers to build new product functionality at scale, quickly</li>
</ul>
<h2>About you</h2>
<ul>
<li>8+ years of engineering experience building and operating reliable backend services at scale, with 3+ years driving large-scale projects</li>
<li>You have driven large technical initiatives spanning multiple teams, and perhaps organizations, from early design to adoption</li>
<li>You go deep on hard problems and can carry a design from first principles through to production</li>
<li>You enjoy sharing what you know with other engineers and helping them build production-quality infrastructure</li>
<li>You are skilled at communicating technical concepts and constraints to cross-functional partners in product</li>
<li>You bring care and rigor to systems where correctness is not negotiable, and can reason about the blast radius of a change before it ships</li>
</ul>
<h2>Desirable</h2>
<ul>
<li>You have experience with authorization systems, permission models, or multi-tenant data isolation at scale</li>
<li>You have worked on query engines, query planning, caching layers, or graph-shaped data access</li>
<li>You are familiar with infrastructure-as-code and container orchestration technologies like Terraform and Kubernetes</li>
</ul>
At Asana, we're committed to building teams that include a variety of backgrounds, perspectives, and skills, as this is critical to helping us achieve our mission. If you're interested in this role and don't meet every listed requirement, we still encourage you to apply.

Staff Software Engineer, Data Loading Infrastructure

The Product Management team drives Asana's product strategy and execution, translating customer needs and opportunities into a compelling roadmap and working cross-functionally to deliver impactful solutions for team productivity and collaboration. We're helping to define the Work Management category and inventing new ways for teams to work more efficiently together and see the larger purpose behind their work. Our team works directly with Engineering, Design, Experience Research, and Data Science, as well as with Sales, Support, and Marketing to ship great products.
&nbsp;
We're looking for a Staff Product Manager to join the team that keeps complex, interdependent work accurate as it changes. This team owns tasks and how they connect and stay in sync — including subtasks, dependencies, milestones, and the approvals that keep changes safe — across the views people plan from like the Task Pane, Board, Timeline, Gantt, and Project Overview. These mechanics are what let enterprise teams model their most complex initiatives directly in Asana, so decisions here carry real revenue and competitive weight. With Asana's recent launch of Agentic Work Management, where AI Teammates work alongside people on the same plan, this PM will help pioneer this new category — owning the strategy for keeping scheduling and task relationships trustworthy as agents, not just people, propose and make changes.
&nbsp;
This role is based in our Warsaw office with an office-centric hybrid schedule. The standard in-office days are Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday. Most Asanas have the option to work from home on Wednesdays and Fridays. If you're interviewing for this role, your recruiter will share more about the in-office requirements.
&nbsp;
What you'll achieve:
<ul>
<li>Set the strategy for how tasks connect and stay in sync as plans change — dependencies, durations, milestones, and the approval loops that keep updates safe — aligned with broader group goals</li>
<li>Drive end-to-end delivery of multi-month initiatives — from problem definition through launch — often defining work that lands on other teams' roadmaps and requires coordinating delivery across multiple teams, rather than owning a single piece of a larger initiative</li>
<li>Scope tight MVPs and prioritize rigorously, making sound decisions even without perfect information</li>
<li>Facilitate complex, multi-team alignment — our surfaces touch nearly every other team at Asana, so building consensus and driving cross-functional coordination is central to the role</li>
<li>Connect regularly with customers, using those insights to guide strategy, especially around how large and enterprise teams configure and scale their use of Asana</li>
<li>Mentor other product managers and help raise the bar on product craft across the team</li>
</ul>
&nbsp;
About you:
<ul>
<li>6-8 years of Product Management experience, with a track record of driving — not just contributing to — end-user features rather than purely internal or platform-only work</li>
<li>Experience shipping multi-month, end-to-end initiatives that require close coordination across multiple teams, including work that puts deliverables on other teams' roadmaps, where you owned the full arc from definition to delivery</li>
<li>You understand how complex, interdependent work actually gets planned and scheduled in large organizations — shifting timelines, messy dependency chains, and approval processes that vary team to team — and you've shaped product decisions around that complexity, not just built controls to manage it</li>
<li>Systems thinker: you're comfortable reasoning about how a change in one part of a platform affects adjacent and dependent surfaces, while still caring deeply about the individual, in-the-moment experience for the person using it</li>
<li>Strong cross-functional communicator: you can align multiple teams around a hard decision and keep execution moving even when consensus is hard to reach</li>
<li>A growth mindset: you seek out feedback, reflect, and actively mentor others</li>
<li>Background at a project or work management company or a mid-to-large enterprise SaaS company with complex scheduling or workflow needs is a plus, but not required</li>

What we’ll offer
<ul>
<li>Generous, transparent and fair compensation system</li>
<li>Contract of Employment (and the option of&nbsp;50% tax deductible costs for author’s rights usage in respect of applicable roles)&nbsp;</li>
<li>Health insurance with dental and travel coverage (Lux Med)&nbsp;</li>
<li>Meals reimbursement on the days that you work from the office</li>
<li>Career growth budget&nbsp;</li>
<li>Home office setup budget&nbsp;</li>
<li>Gym/Fitness reimbursement</li>
<li>Fertility healthcare and family-forming support with&nbsp;<a href="https://www.get-carrot.com/">Carrot</a></li>
<li>Mental Health Support in Modern Health</li>
<li>Group life insurance</li>
<li>MacBooks with all necessary accessories</li>

Software Engineer, Data Loading Infrastructure
