As a Senior Software Engineer on the MVR team, reporting to the Engineering Manager, you will build and evolve the systems that power Checkr's motor vehicle record screenings, helping customers make safe, fair, and fast decisions about the drivers on their platforms. You will lead the design and execution of reliable, scalable services across the MVR lifecycle, from how records are ordered and retrieved from data sources to how they are processed, normalized, and delivered in customer reports. You will partner closely with Product, Supply Chain Operations, Product, and Business Operations to shape the platform's long-term architecture and ensure MVR screenings scale alongside Checkr's growth.
What you’ll do

End-to-End Ownership: Lead the development lifecycle for complex MVR features, from ideation and technical design through implementation, release, and ongoing operation.

System-Level Strategy: Define and drive the technical direction for MVR systems, identifying architectural improvements that increase reliability, reduce turnaround time, and make the platform easier to extend.

Cross-Functional Partnership: Partner with Data Supply Chain, Supply Chain Operations, Product, and Operations to translate data provider realities and customer needs into scalable technical solutions.

Engineering Excellence: Design, build, and maintain high-performance services that meet the highest standards for data accuracy, security, and compliance.

Operational Reliability: Proactively identify systemic risks across MVR data flows, lead incident response and root-cause analysis, and drive durable fixes that prevent recurrence.

Technical Leadership: Mentor engineers on the team and across the organization, raising the bar on code quality, design reviews, and engineering practices.

AI-First Mindset: Embrace an engineering culture where AI tooling is standard practice, leveraging the latest AI-assisted tools, models, and assistants to amplify your impact.

What you bring

Senior Backend Expertise: 5+ years of experience building scalable backend systems, with strong proficiency in at least one modern programming language and a deep understanding of relational databases, ORMs, and RESTful APIs.

Distributed Systems Experience: A proven track record of designing and maintaining reliable distributed systems, including hands-on experience with microservices, CI/CD, and asynchronous or event-driven architectures.

Systems Thinking: The ability to reason about a platform end to end, weigh architectural trade-offs, and design solutions that hold up as data sources, volume, and product requirements change.

Data Integration & Quality: Experience integrating with external data providers or third-party APIs, and building pipelines that handle inconsistent, delayed, or incomplete data with accuracy and resilience.

Ownership & Communication: Full-cycle ownership of your work and the ability to communicate technical decisions clearly to both engineering and non-engineering partners.

An A-player mindset with a strong bias for action: you raise the bar, move with urgency, stay resilient through ambiguity, and take ownership to deliver meaningful outcomes.

Senior Software Engineer (Ruby/Rails), MVR

About Checkr Checkr is building the data platform to power safe and fair decisions. Truv by Checkr delivers real-time income and employment verification to government agencies. State Departments of Health, Social Services, and Health and Human Services use our platform to verify eligibility for programs like SNAP, Medicaid, TANF, and child support faster, more accurately, and with less burden on the residents they serve. Backed by Checkr’s scale and our secure, API-first platform for payroll data access, we’re replacing manual, paper-heavy verification processes with modern infrastructure built for the public sector.

About the Role

We’re hiring a Staff Product Manager to own the end-to-end client experience for Truv by Checkr’s government business, from contract signature through go-live and sustained adoption. Your focus is activation. You’ll make it dramatically faster and easier for agencies, system integrators, and their developers to get to live verifications, and to keep getting value afterward.
You’ll lead client onboarding and activation across engineering, design, implementation, and customer success, and shape how Checkr scales its government business. You’ll work directly with agency program leaders, eligibility caseworkers, and integration partners, and turn their feedback into products that remove friction at every step.

What You’ll Do

Own the activation journey end to end. Define and improve every stage of the agency lifecycle after contract: onboarding, implementation, configuration, go-live, and post-launch adoption. Partner with Sales so the demo sets agencies up for a smooth start. Build toward a self-serve experience wherever possible.

Reduce time to go-live. Find the bottlenecks between contract and first live production verification, whether they’re technical, procedural, or organizational, and ship products that remove them.

Build for every type of client user. Design configuration and customization capabilities in the Truv dashboard for agency administrators, caseworkers, and technical teams who rely on it for day-to-day operations and reporting after go-live.

Elevate the developer and integrator experience. Partner with agency IT teams, system integrators, and eligibility system vendors to streamline integration, including documentation, sandbox environments, best practices, and implementation tooling.

Measure and improve client health. Define activation and adoption metrics, build visibility for internal teams and clients, and use the data and client behavior to prioritize and ship improvements quickly after launch.

Bring the voice of the agency into the roadmap. Run user research and usability testing with agency staff and end users. Gather feedback from implementation and go-live, and turn it into clear, prioritized product plans.

Partner on compliance and security. Work with compliance, legal, and security teams to make sure onboarding and data flows meet public sector requirements.

Lead through influence. Align product, engineering, design, implementation, customer success, sales, and marketing around a shared activation strategy. Mentor other PMs and raise the bar for product craft across the team.

Who You Are

Required

A Bachelor’s degree in Business, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent experience.

8+ years of product management experience, including ownership of B2B or B2G onboarding, activation, implementation, or developer experience products.

Experience shipping products in regulated, multi-stakeholder environments such as government, healthcare, insurance, or financial services, where compliance, security, or third-party partners shaped what you built.

A record of improving time-to-value metrics (time to go-live, activation rate, adoption depth) with quantified results, and the analytical skill to define the right metrics and turn data into product changes.

Comfort with technical products. You can partner closely with engineers and talk credibly with client developers about APIs, integrations, and configuration.

Hands-on experience with user research and usability testing, and with experimentation where it’s appropriate.

An excellent operator who manages competing priorities, synthesizes input from many stakeholders, and delivers in a fast-paced environment.

Clear, structured written and verbal communication with audiences from agency executives to caseworkers to engineers.

Strong plus

A record of delivering products used by state or federal agencies.

Experience with public benefits programs (SNAP, Medicaid, TANF, child support) or eligibility systems.

Experience at a startup or high-growth company.

How We’ll Measure Success

Reduced time from contract signature to go-live for new agency clients.

Higher activation and adoption rates across onboarded agencies.

A greater share of onboarding and configuration completed through self-serve.

Improved verification conversion and reliability in live agency deployments.

Positive feedback from agency clients and integration partners on onboarding, usability, and support.

High-quality launches delivered on time.

An A-player mindset with a strong bias for action: you raise the bar, move with urgency, stay resilient through ambiguity, and take ownership to deliver meaningful outcomes.

Nice to have:

This Customer Support Representative I role reports to the Senior Manager, Operations and will be among the first Customer Support agents in Checkr's Nashville office, providing fast, empathetic, omnichannel support across email, chat, and voice. You'll resolve a high volume of customer inquiries, troubleshoot issues with sound judgment, and act as a subject-matter expert who can handle escalations with minimal oversight. You'll partner closely with Shared Services on training, quality, and knowledge management, and with Product to surface recurring customer pain points, helping prove out Checkr's investment in scaled, high-quality support as the team grows alongside AI-driven tools.
What you’ll do

Drive Resolutions: Resolve high-priority support requests from SMB and Mid-Market customers, using judgment to know when to solve versus escalate

Control the Conversation: Confidently guide customer interactions across chat, email, and phone, setting expectations, de-escalating tension, and steering toward resolution

Take Radical Ownership: Act as the internal champion for your customers, seeing every issue through from first contact to full resolution, partnering with cross-functional teams when needed

Leverage AI Tools: Work alongside Checkr's AI-driven tools to automate routine tasks and catch when their answers are wrong, so you can focus your judgment where it actually matters

Own Technical & Compliance Depth: Handle account setup, integration questions, billing issues, and compliance questions (including FCRA), becoming the go-to for complex, edge-case requests

Identify friction points in the customer journey and help train and refine the AI models and SOPs your team relies on by providing feedback

What you bring

2+ years of experience in B2B customer support, customer success, or technical support, SaaS environment preferred

Comfortable navigating complex software ecosystems and confident using AI tools to move faster, while catching when their output is wrong

Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the presence to control a conversation and de-escalate a frustrated customer

A genuine problem-solver's mindset: complex, ambiguous issues energize you rather than drain you, and you use SOPs as a guide, not a script

Curiosity about how our product, policies, and compliance requirements fit together, with a bias toward learning the why, not just the how

An A-player mindset with a strong bias for action: you raise the bar, move with urgency, stay resilient through ambiguity, and take ownership to deliver meaningful outcomes

We’re looking for a Senior Product Designer to help shape the end-to-end experiences that power Checkr’s Verifications products—spanning employment, education, criminal record, and driving record verifications, with a key focus on drug & occupational health testing. You’ll partner closely with Product, Engineering, and cross-functional stakeholders to design intuitive workflows for complex, high-trust domains—balancing candidate ease, employer clarity, and operational realities.
This is a hands-on product design role with high ownership: you’ll drive discovery through execution, bring strong craft, and help the team make great decisions through clear thinking and excellent communication.

What you’ll do

Own design for key Verifications product areas—including drug & occupational health testing—across candidate, employer, and internal operational experiences (as applicable), from discovery through launch and iteration.

Partner with Product and Engineering to define problems, shape roadmaps, and deliver high-quality solutions that align user needs with business outcomes.

Simplify complex workflows (verification requests, document collection, consent/authorization, appointment scheduling, status visibility, exception handling) into clear, user-friendly experiences.

Use AI-assisted design and development tools to rapidly prototype, validate, and—when appropriate—implement lightweight UI changes in code to improve iteration speed and overall product quality.

Design for trust and clarity in a sensitive, regulated domain—prioritizing transparency, error prevention, accessibility, and confidence-building UI patterns.

Translate insights into outcomes by combining qualitative research, stakeholder input, and product data to propose, test, and refine solutions.

Create thoughtful interaction and visual design across responsive web and/or platform surfaces, producing clear specs and assets for engineering.

Facilitate alignment with workshops, design reviews, and strong storytelling—helping teams move from ambiguity to decisions.

Collaborate cross-functionally with partners such as Customer Success, Sales, Compliance/Legal, Data, and Operations to ensure designs work in the real world.

Contribute to design systems and standards to improve consistency, speed, and quality across Checkr.

What you bring

You have 5–8+ years of product design experience (or equivalent), with a strong track record of shipping high-quality work.

Your portfolio demonstrates end-to-end thinking: problem framing, exploration, rationale, collaboration, iteration, and measurable impact.

You’re comfortable working in complex domains where edge cases matter, and you can distill that complexity into simple, usable flows.

You have strong product instincts—you know how to balance user needs, business goals, technical constraints, and timeline realities.

You’re experienced in collaborative, cross-functional environments, influencing decisions through clarity rather than authority.

You can independently plan and execute lightweight research (interviews, usability testing, concept validation) and partner effectively with researchers when available.

You sweat the details: interaction patterns, content clarity, information hierarchy, and accessibility best practices.

An A-player mindset with a strong bias for action: you raise the bar, move with urgency, stay resilient through ambiguity, and take ownership to deliver meaningful outcomes.

Nice to have

Experience in background screening, HR tech, healthcare, identity, compliance-heavy, or other high-trust regulated spaces.

Experience designing B2B / B2B2C products, especially workflows used by operations teams or external partners.

Familiarity with design systems, documentation, and scalable component thinking.

Experience designing for secure data, consent, and privacy-forward user experiences.

Senior Product Designer, Verifications

About Checkr Checkr is building the data platform to power safe and fair decisions. We’re hiring an ML Engineer (P3) to build and ship the AI systems that power Checkr’s core products. This role sits on the ML team inside Checkr’s Data & ML organization within Engineering.
Checkr runs millions of background checks a year. The ML team builds the systems that make those checks faster, more accurate, and cheaper to operate: document processing, charge classification, entity resolution, and in-product intelligence. These are production services that Product Engineering depends on daily.
This is not a research role or a notebook role. You’ll own ML services end-to-end: design them, code them, deploy them, monitor them. We need someone who writes production software, builds with LLMs and APIs as first-class tools, and can tell the difference between working code and AI slop. If you’ve spent the last few years building AI-native software and you care deeply about engineering craft, we want to talk.
This role sits in the central Data & ML team within the Engineering organization. You will partner daily with Product Engineering, Product, and cross-functional teams. You’ll also contribute to Checkr’s broader AI strategy, including our initiative to deploy our agentic fleet and build scalable context with our semantic layer.
We are looking for someone based in San Francisco who has built ML systems in fast-moving, impact-first environments. Less process, more shipping. Less paperwork, more results.
What you’ll do

Build and deploy ML/AI services. Design, develop, and ship ML models and AI systems that Product Engineering teams rely on. You write the model code, the API layer, the monitoring, and the tests. Not notebooks; production services.

Design with LLMs and APIs. Use LLM APIs (OpenAI, Anthropic, etc.) as building blocks in production systems. You know when to call an LLM, when to fine-tune, when to use a classical model, and when to write a rule. You think about cost, latency, and quality together.

Ship production software. Write clean, well-structured code with solid OOP, proper abstractions, error handling, and tests. Your code gets reviewed by SWEs and passes. CI/CD is how you work, not something you bolt on at the end.

Partner with product and engineering. Translate business problems into ML solutions. Define API contracts with product engineers. Explain your approach clearly to non-ML partners and leave the room with alignment, not confusion.

Evaluate and iterate fast. Build evaluation frameworks, run experiments, and make data-driven decisions about model and system performance. Ship and iterate; don’t wait for perfect.

Ship AI-powered workflows. Put AI to work on your own processes: automate pipelines, build agentic workflows, and contribute reusable skills and context to Checkr’s agentic platform. The expectation is that our teams operate AI-first.

What you bring

A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, or a related technical field, or equivalent depth from experience

6+ years building software professionally, with at least 2 of those building ML systems that run in production

Strong Python fluency; you write clean, testable, well-structured code with solid OOP instincts. Hands-on experience using LLM APIs in production systems: prompt engineering, structured outputs, function calling, cost management, and evaluation

You’ve built and maintained APIs, worked with CI/CD pipelines, and shipped code that other engineers depend on

Comfort with and enthusiasm for AI-assisted workflows; experience using LLMs, code-generation tools, or agentic systems in production or operational contexts is a strong signal

You use AI tools (Copilot, Claude, etc.) to move faster, but you understand every line they produce. You can spot AI slop and you don’t ship it

An A-player mindset with a strong bias for action: you raise the bar, move with urgency, stay resilient through ambiguity, and take ownership to deliver meaningful outcomes.

Nice to have

Experience with MLOps platforms (MLflow, SageMaker, Vertex, or similar)

Background in document processing, OCR, or information extraction

Experience with PySpark or large-scale data processing

Ruby experience (Checkr’s platform runs on Rails)

Familiarity with compliance-sensitive domains (fintech, legal tech, HR tech)

Working knowledge of dbt, Snowflake, or modern ELT/data transformation tools

You'll own day-to-day product counseling across the product lifecycle, advising on consumer protection, privacy, and emerging AI issues in a highly regulated environment. You'll partner closely with Product, Engineering, and Customer Success to help teams move fast while managing risk, directly supporting Checkr's growth as we scale new products and serve more customers. This role is ideal for someone looking for career growth, who is comfortable taking a generalist approach in learning new areas of the law, and who thrives in a fast-moving environment and wants to deepen expertise while shaping how products are built.
What you'll do

Provide day-to-day legal counsel to Product and Engineering teams, from early design and requirements through launch and iteration

Lead and execute legal reviews of new features and product changes, identifying risks early and recommending practical, business-friendly solutions

Advise on consumer reporting, consumer protection, and privacy issues affecting Checkr's products, including FCRA, DPPA, GLBA, CCPA/CPRA, GDPR, and AI-related risk

Partner with Customer Success to answer customer questions about product compliance, translating legal requirements into clear, credible responses

Track regulatory developments, enforcement trends, and litigation affecting Checkr's products, and turn them into actionable guidance for product teams

Contribute to scaling the Product & Privacy legal function by building and improving processes, templates, and playbooks that help the team move faster

What you bring

J.D. from an accredited law school and active membership in good standing of at least one U.S. state bar

4+ years of experience practicing law, with meaningful exposure to product counseling, privacy, consumer protection, or technology law (in-house experience a plus), preferably with B2B and international experience

Experience supporting products or businesses in a regulated industry and serving as internal subject matter expert, with working knowledge of the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA), CCPA, GDPR, AI-related risk, and related global frameworks a large plus

Ability to calibrate risk to business objectives and product stage, and to deliver clear, actionable guidance to non-lawyers

Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex legal concepts concisely and approachably

An A-player mindset with a strong bias for action: you raise the bar, move with urgency, stay resilient through ambiguity, and take ownership to deliver meaningful outcomes.
